Poddles??? Intelligent???? I think they are one of the worst dogs around.
GSD are great I live in Germany and they have GSD clubs in every town where they do Shutzenhound classes. My Sibe just wants to join in!

i think it is really difficult to compare the intelligence of different breeds
in my opinion, GSDs ARE very intelligent but where they really excel in is that they are such all-rounded dogs
i have a bulldog, which ranks 77 out of 79 in the stanley coren ranking, but i think she’s pretty clever anyway
(just my very unprofessional opinion

i think both GSDs and dobermanns are great breeds, and i guess everyone has their preferences
the common “intelligence ranking” which says “border then poodle then GSD” is probably from The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren though other rankings may be similar
the stanley coren ranking measures the intelligence of the breeds by how quickly they learn commands and how often they obey, so sometimes lower ranked breeds may just be more obstinate but as clever.

the ranking is from The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver

Actually it is not incorrect nowhere in the video does it say they are the most intelligent breed. What it says @2:42 that is the best all around breed on average. Intelligence and a willingnes to please and an ability to carry out any task a dog is physically capable of it the hallmark of the breed. The GSD is the most popular breed in the world, with more registrations processed by the AKC and UKC than any other breed. Show me a breed that can excel in half of the tasks they give GSD ’s

That is incorrect. German Shepherds are considered the third smartest breed behind Poodles and Border Collies. Dobermans come in at #5.

Haha that’s the past renagade, the police and army these days have alot more german shepherds registered than dobermans and other dog breeds, because as wildb0i said before they can adapt better for professional jobs and are capable of doing more physically demanding jobs than dobies, hope you understand or look deeper into it, thanks

Yes they were supposed to be bred specifically to guard but that definitely doesn’t mean their the best for it, to be the best protection dog they can be, they have to be trained professionally with the right people. And the world wars are the past, it’s the future now, german shepherds are a more newer breed than dobermans. Hmm so anyways, i guess the fact that the best military and police units in present time choose german shepherds over dobermans doesn’t ring a bell for you? cheers buddy

also cant go wrong with a dog that served in world war 1 and 2… but a quote from national geographic ” The Marine dogs were named “Devildogs”, 90% of them were Doberman Pinschers . During World War II, seven War Dog Platoons were trained at Camp LeJeune” ect…. so im going with my personal and army personal dogs.

well when it comes to guard dogs i would rather have a dog that was bred for the purpose to guard, in fact national geographic said that the doberman pincher is the ONLY dog that was bred for the specific job to guard. lets leave it there since i don’t want to fight over dog breeds…

And finally, regarding speed, adaptability and usefulness for professional jobs and anything you can think of. For a large size dog breed, dobermans are clumsier compared to german shepherds, good german shepherds have always been more explosive when they launch off in prey drive or for any take-off activity. Ask any professional dog training facility, police k9 units or highly ranked organizations out there which dog takes number one for all-round capabilities and adaptation, you can’t argue.

continued.. national geographic did a bite force test between a german shepherd, pitbull and rottweiler, the german shepherd was rated number two for having the strongest bite force out of pitbulls and rottweilers, rottweiler came first due to the bigger head/broader jaw. Dobermans naturally have a thinner head than german shepherds as you’ll notice if you properly compare the best of both breeds.

Well have a bit of enthusiasm and type this in google.. “most intelligent dogs list” or something like that, you’ll see on every high ranked website out there, german shepherds are rated as the 3rd most smartest dog in the world trailing poodles and border collies, which was judged by how many repetitions it took for the dogs to learn a trick or skill, dobermans came in at 5 which is surprising to be honest, because they cant do the work and activities that good german shepherds can do. cont..

like i said its a personal choice I’ve owned both breeds an both from great German bloodlines and the doberman is in my opinion and my vets opinion and a lot of people including many breed jounals a better breed and i would like to correct you, the doberman is known to be more intelligent, maybe you should read papers and breed journals, have a good day. where are you getting your info since you said”german bloodlines have been rated as quicker, more intelligent, stronger bite and alot more.”

I would love to have a german shepherd so when people brag about their dogs tricks i could come in a be like oh yeah well my dog can sniff drugs and bombs. that is the ultimate dog trick.

renegade, what makes you think dobermans are overall better? purebred german shepherds such as those from german bloodlines have been rated as quicker, more intelligent, stronger bite and alot more. Personality is another thing that has made german shepherds famous.
