How do you select your dog food? Most people don’t know how to read the ingredients list nor do they understand what they really mean.

While doing research on possible cause for dog seizures I started to investigate dog food ingredients. I found out the dog food industry has some scary secrets that they wish would remain unknown to the general public. The problem is that now that I know I have decided I must tell the world.

You can be at ease, I’m not going to try and sell you some high priced cure all healthy dog food. What I will do is show you how to pick the correct dog food based on knowing what the ingredients really are.

If you take simple steps and learn to feed your dogs healthy food, you can add around 8 years to their lives Just think, that means eight more years of tongue kissing, tail wagging unconditional love

It was not easy sifting through the fiction to find the facts about what the ingredients listed in dog food really were. The good news is the FDA does regulate dog food labeling… well sort of. The weak regulations are so weak that ingredients labeled not fit for human consumption can be the main ingredients for dog food..

Because the FDA has written such weak labeling regulations the industry is able to add ingredients that are harmful to your dog and are added because the make the food taste better so that they’ll eat it.. Not to mention just plain deceive the pet owner by allowing the commercial pet food industry to play with words in their labeling.

Here is one example of how they play with words. If the food is named Beef Dog Food it would have 70% of some kind of beef, but if its name is Beef Flavored Dog Food it would have 0% beef..

Other ways the FDA’s regulations allow them to fool the pet owner is if you see the words Nugget or Dinner in the name of the dog food it only has 3% of that ingredient in the food.

The dog food industry has been allowed to use the bottom end of the food chain as their ingredients. These ingredients are all marked unfit for human consumption somewhere along the process.

Some companies in the commercial pet food industry are adding waste leftovers from human food processing plants to add protein to their dog foods. We could not eat these by-products so why would we want to feed it to our dogs?

The dog food labeling regulations our written so poorly that they allow the industry to make toxic ingredients sound like they are healthy. If your dog food has an ingredient listed as “Dried Egg Products” you might think that is healthy. After all eggs are a good source of protein, but dried egg products are the leftovers from the egg industry that are deemed not fit for human consumption.

You would be surprised the number of healthy sounding ingredients listed on dog food labels that are actually toxic waste.

Once I found out what was really in most commercially made dog food, I switched my dogs to a homemade dog food. This does take some work and I understand that not everyone can do this, and that is why it’s so important that you learn how to read and understand a dog food label. The link below will take you to a website that I found that will explain every word listed on the label of the dog food you are using.
